Course overview
GIS and Remote Sensing for Agriculture, Food Security & Climate Change is a practical, application-focused course designed to equip professionals with the skills to use geospatial technologies and Earth observation data to address challenges in agriculture, food security, natural resource management, and climate change. Participants learn how to collect, manage, analyse, and visualize spatial and satellite data to support evidence-based agricultural planning, crop monitoring, drought assessment, land-use analysis, and climate-related decision-making.
The course combines Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Remote Sensing, satellite imagery, spatial analysis, and geospatial data visualization to demonstrate how location-based information can support sustainable agriculture and food-security programmes. Practical applications include crop and land-cover mapping, vegetation monitoring, agricultural suitability analysis, drought and flood assessment, soil and water resource mapping, climate-risk analysis, and monitoring changes in agricultural landscapes. Participants gain practical skills that can be applied by government agencies,
