Course overview
Data Center Design, Planning & Capacity Management Training Workshop is a practical programme designed to equip IT infrastructure, engineering, facilities and technology professionals with the knowledge and skills required to plan, design, size, expand and optimise modern data center facilities.
The workshop covers the complete data center planning lifecycle, from business and IT requirements assessment, site selection and facility planning to space allocation, rack planning, power and cooling capacity, network connectivity, redundancy, resilience, commissioning and future expansion. Effective design requires coordinated planning of the major infrastructure constraints, including power, cooling, space and connectivity.
Course objectives
- Develop data center design and planning requirements based on business objectives, IT workloads, availability requirements, infrastructure dependencies and future growth.
- Design resilient infrastructure architectures using appropriate redundancy, availability, maintainability and fault-tolerance approaches.
- Calculate and plan space, power, cooling and network capacity for current and projected data center workloads.
- Develop data center capacity-management frameworks incorporating monitoring, forecasting, utilisation analysis, capacity reserves and infrastructure expansion planning.
- Evaluate modern data center design options for high-density computing, AI infrastructure, sustainability, energy efficiency, modular deployment, cloud integration and future scalabilit

General notes
- Participants learn how to translate current and projected IT workloads into practical infrastructure requirements. This includes rack density, power demand, cooling requirements, floor space, network capacity, equipment growth, redundancy requirements and capacity reserves. Capacity management is particularly important because space, power and cooling must remain available as IT loads grow.
- The programme also examines data center availability and resilience classifications, including Tier concepts, N, N+1 and 2N redundancy, maintainability, fault tolerance and infrastructure dependencies. Uptime Institute's Tier framework distinguishes basic capacity, redundant capacity, concurrently maintainable and fault-tolerant facilities.
- Modern design considerations are incorporated throughout the programme, including high-density computing, GPU and AI infrastructure, liquid cooling, virtualization, cloud and hybrid infrastructure, modular data centers, energy efficiency, sustainability, DCIM and data-driven capacity forecasting.
- Recommended Technology & Tools DCIM platforms, CAD/BIM concepts, data center design tools, Excel/Power BI, capacity-planning software, environmental monitoring systems, BMS, power monitoring systems, UPS monitoring, network monitoring platforms, asset-management systems, PUE and energy-monitoring tools, CFD concepts, virtualization platforms, cloud infrastructure platforms, AI/GPU infrastructure planning tools and infrastructure documentation platforms.
