Civil 3D for Road, Highway and Transportation Design Training Workshop / Seminar

Duration: 10 Days Certificate on completion 3 sessions available

Course overview

The Civil 3D for Road, Highway and Transportation Design Training Workshop equips civil engineers, highway engineers, road designers, surveyors and infrastructure professionals with practical skills to design, model and document road infrastructure using Autodesk Civil 3D. Participants learn to develop horizontal and vertical alignments, create road profiles, assemble typical road cross-sections, build 3D road corridors, model intersections, assess cut-and-fill quantities and produce engineering drawings for road construction projects. The workshop covers the integration of survey data, existing-ground surfaces, geometric road design, corridor modelling, drainage considerations, earthworks estimation and construction documentation.

Through practical, project-based exercises, participants develop a road design workflow from initial survey data through preliminary geometric design, corridor development, quantity reporting and drawing production. The course emphasises the application of recognised road design principles, relevant national standards and appropriate engineering quality-control procedures.

Course objectives

Who should attend

This workshop is designed for civil engineers, highway and transportation engineers, road design engineers, land surveyors, infrastructure consultants, site engineers, CAD technicians, construction managers, quantity surveyors and technical officers involved in road development and rehabilitation. It is also suitable for county government engineering departments, road authorities, infrastructure contractors and engineering consultancies seeking to strengthen their Civil 3D design and documentation capabilities.

General notes

Frequently asked questions

1. 1. Who should attend this Civil 3D road design workshop?
Civil engineers, highway engineers, road designers, surveyors, CAD technicians, construction professionals, quantity surveyors and infrastructure consultants involved in road planning, design or delivery.
2. 2. Do I need prior AutoCAD experience?
Basic AutoCAD knowledge is recommended. Participants should ideally understand engineering drawings and basic road geometry, although Civil 3D concepts and workflows are introduced progressively.
3. 3. Will the course cover actual road design and corridor modelling?
Yes. Participants develop alignments, vertical profiles, assemblies, corridor models, sample lines and cross-sections through practical exercises using a sample road project.
4. 4. Will I learn to calculate road construction quantities?
Yes. The workshop covers corridor surface generation, cut-and-fill calculations, volume surfaces and preliminary earthworks reporting. Pavement quantities can also be examined when the corridor assembly and material definitions are configured appropriately.
5. 5. Is the workshop suitable for road projects ?
Yes. Exercises can be adapted to Kenyan road and highway projects, using metric units and relevant road authority design criteria. Final engineering designs must be checked against current applicable standards and approved by appropriately qualified professionals.
