General notes

Frequently asked questions

1. 1. What is DHIS2, and why is it important?
DHIS2 is an open-source health information management platform used by governments and organisations to collect, manage, analyse and present health data. It supports routine health reporting, disease surveillance, programme monitoring and evidence-based planning.
2. 2. Who should attend this training workshop?
The workshop is suitable for health information officers, HIS coordinators, M&E specialists, public health professionals, health programme managers, data analysts, hospital administrators, NGO staff and other professionals responsible for health data reporting and analysis.
3. 3. Do I need prior DHIS2 experience?
Basic computer skills and familiarity with health information or reporting processes are helpful. The workshop introduces core DHIS2 concepts before progressing to data analysis, indicator configuration and dashboard development. Participants with existing DHIS2 experience can focus on the more advanced analytical exercises.
4. 4. Will I learn how to create DHIS2 dashboards?
Yes. Participants will learn how to select indicators, create charts and pivot tables, incorporate maps where supported, arrange dashboard components and develop dashboards for routine monitoring and management decision-making.
5. 5. Will the training use practical health datasets?
Yes. Practical exercises can use sample datasets covering areas such as immunisation, maternal and child health, outpatient services, HIV programmes, tuberculosis, malaria and other health service indicators. Actual topics depend on the training dataset and participants' interests.
6. 6. Is DHIS2 the same as Power BI?
No. DHIS2 is a health information management platform with its own data collection, analytics and dashboard applications. Power BI is a separate business intelligence tool that can complement DHIS2 when organisations need additional reporting or cross-system analysis.
7. 7. Will participants learn DHIS2 system administration?
The workshop introduces selected configuration, metadata, user management and data governance concepts. Full server administration, installation, advanced database management and system deployment can require separate technical training.
8. 8. What will participants receive after the training?
Participants should complete practical exercises and a capstone project, producing outputs such as indicator analyses, data quality reports, visualisations, dashboards and management reports. A certificate of completion may be issued by the training provider, subject to its applicable requirements.
