Environmental Impact Assessment, Auditing and Compliance Management Training Workshop
5 Days1 sessions available Certificate on completion
The Environmental Impact Assessment, Auditing and Compliance Management Training Workshop equips professionals with practical skills to assess environmental and social impacts, conduct environmental audits, manage regulatory obligations, and implement effective environmental management systems. The course covers EIA screening and scoping, baseline studies, impact prediction, mitigation planning, environmental monitoring, audit procedures, compliance inspections, and corrective action management. It is designed for professionals involved in environmental regulation, infrastructure development, industrial operations, natural resource management, and sustainability programmes, with practical applications relevant to Kenya, Tanzania, and other African countries.
Build professional capacity in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), Environmental Auditing and Compliance Management through practical training in impact assessment, environmental legislation, audit procedures, pollution control, environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance. Designed for environmental officers, consultants, regulators and project managers, this workshop supports effective environmental risk management and sustainable project implementation across Kenya and Africa.
Course objectives
Conduct environmental impact assessment screening, scoping, baseline analysis, and impact evaluation for proposed projects.
Interpret applicable environmental legislation, permit conditions, standards, and regulatory obligations.
Plan and conduct environmental audits, inspections, compliance reviews, and evidence-based reporting.
Develop Environmental and Social Management Plans (ESMPs), including mitigation measures, monitoring indicators, responsibilities, and budgets.

General notes
Practical Activities and Expected Outputs Participants will undertake a simulated EIA screening and scoping exercise, prepare an environmental impact significance matrix, develop an Environmental and Social Management Plan, conduct a mock environmental site audit using structured checklists, review sample permits and compliance records, prepare an environmental non-conformance report, develop a corrective action plan, construct an environmental compliance register, and produce an environmental audit report with practical recommendations. These activities can use realistic case studies from construction, manufacturing, mining, energy, agriculture, water and sanitation, and donor-funded infrastructure projects.
Training Tools and Software The workshop can use Microsoft Excel for environmental risk matrices, audit checklists, compliance registers and monitoring dashboards; Word for EIA reports, audit reports and ESMP documentation; PowerPoint for presenting findings; QGIS for mapping sensitive ecosystems, project boundaries and environmental risk areas; and Google Earth or suitable remote-sensing datasets for visual site assessment. Where relevant, the course can also introduce ISO 14001 environmental management system documentation, digital inspection tools, and GIS-based environmental monitoring workflows.
Frequently asked questions
The workshop is suitable for environmental professionals, consultants, regulators, project managers, engineers, auditors, compliance officers, ESG practitioners and organisations responsible for managing environmental risks.
It combines essential theory with practical exercises, case studies, audit simulations, environmental risk assessment, compliance documentation and reporting.
The course can incorporate Kenya's Environmental Management and Co-ordination Act, applicable regulations, EIA and audit requirements, and the role of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA). Country-specific requirements should be verified against current legislation and regulatory guidance. Tanzania-specific or other national frameworks can also be incorporated
Yes. Participants practise audit planning, evidence gathering, site inspection, identification of non-compliance, preparation of audit findings and development of corrective actions.
Participants will work on EIA screening checklists, impact assessment matrices, ESMPs, environmental audit checklists, compliance registers, monitoring plans, non-conformance reports and environmental audit reports.
