Climate Change Risk Assessment, Adaptation and Resilience Planning Training Workshop
10 Days1 sessions available Certificate on completion
The Climate Change Risk Assessment, Adaptation and Resilience Planning Training Workshop equips professionals with practical skills to assess climate-related risks, evaluate vulnerabilities, develop adaptation strategies, and integrate climate resilience into policies, infrastructure, investment decisions, and development programmes. Participants learn to analyse climate hazards such as droughts, floods, heatwaves, changing rainfall patterns, coastal hazards, and ecosystem degradation, and assess their implications for communities, economic sectors, infrastructure, and natural resources.
The workshop covers climate data analysis, vulnerability and exposure assessment, climate risk mapping, adaptation planning, resilience indicators, climate finance, and monitoring and evaluation. It incorporates practical approaches relevant to African governments, county authorities, development agencies, NGOs, financial institutions, utilities, agriculture, and infrastructure projects.
Course objectives
Identify climate hazards and assess exposure, sensitivity, vulnerability, and adaptive capacity across different sectors.
Establish climate resilience indicators, monitoring frameworks, and reporting systems to evaluate adaptation effectiveness and support investment decisions.
Design adaptation strategies, resilience plans, and climate-responsive project interventions.
Conduct climate risk assessments and develop risk profiles for communities, infrastructure, ecosystems, and development investments.
Interpret historical climate observations, climate projections, and relevant socioeconomic and geospatial datasets.
Who should attend
Climate change officers, environmental managers, disaster risk reduction professionals, county and national government officials, urban and regional planners, infrastructure engineers, agricultural and water resource specialists, NGO and development programme managers, monitoring and evaluation officers, environmental consultants, GIS and remote sensing analysts, sustainability and ESG professionals, financial institution risk officers, climate finance specialists, researchers, policymakers, and professionals working with development partners and climate adaptation programmes.

General notes
Practical Activities and Expected Outputs Participants will undertake a climate hazard identification exercise, assess the exposure and vulnerability of a selected community or infrastructure project, construct a climate risk matrix, analyse historical rainfall or temperature data, and develop a GIS-based climate risk map. Additional practical work will involve prioritising adaptation options, preparing an adaptation action plan, defining resilience indicators, and designing a monitoring framework for a climate adaptation project. Expected outputs include a climate risk register, a vulnerability assessment matrix, a hazard and exposure map, an adaptation options appraisal, a climate resilience action plan, and a monitoring and evaluation framework.
Five Strong Training Outcomes Upon completion, participants will be able to: 1. Prepare climate hazard, exposure and vulnerability assessments for development projects and geographical areas. 2. Use climate data and geospatial tools to identify high-risk communities, infrastructure and ecosystems. 3. Develop practical adaptation strategies for agriculture, water, infrastructure, urban development and natural resource management. 4. Integrate climate risk and resilience considerations into project design, budgeting and investment appraisal. 5. Establish measurable climate adaptation indicators and reporting systems for governments, NGOs and development partners.
Develop practical expertise in Climate Change Risk Assessment, Adaptation and Resilience Planning through professional training in climate hazard analysis, vulnerability assessment, climate data analytics, GIS-based risk mapping, adaptation strategy development and resilience monitoring. Designed for government agencies, NGOs, infrastructure professionals, environmental consultants and development partners, this workshop helps participants integrate climate resilience into policies, projects and investment decisions across Kenya and Africa.
