General notes
Training Tools and Software The primary software is AutoCAD for Windows, using the available version and interface installed in the training environment. Participants will use AutoCAD's drafting, editing, annotation, layer management, block, layout, plotting, and introductory 3D tools. Supporting resources may include engineering drawing templates, title blocks, symbol libraries, sample technical drawings, PDF drawing sheets, and Excel for simple drawing registers or revision tracking. Where participants work with civil, mechanical, electrical, or architectural projects, exercises will be customised to the relevant engineering discipline.
Practical Activities and Expected Outputs Participants will complete guided exercises in geometric drafting, drawing modification, layer management, dimensioning, reusable blocks, and plotting. Discipline-specific projects may include a civil site or drainage layout, a mechanical component drawing, an electrical layout, or a building floor plan. Each participant will prepare an organised CAD drawing with appropriate dimensions, annotations, title block, layout, and plotted PDF output.
Expected outputs include a reusable AutoCAD template, a structured layer system, a technical drawing with dimensions and annotations, a reusable block or symbol library, a plotted engineering drawing package, and a final CAD project file suitable for review and further editing.
Five Strong Training Outcomes Upon completion, participants will be able to: 1. Produce precise and professional 2D engineering drawings using AutoCAD. 2. Organise drawings using layers, blocks, templates, and consistent drafting standards. 3. Apply accurate dimensioning, annotation, layout, and plotting techniques. 4. Prepare technical drawings for engineering coordination, review, construction documentation, or manufacturing. 5. Manage CAD files and deliver drawing packages in editable DWG and shareable PDF formats.
