Drone-Based GIS and Remote Sensing Training is a practical course focused on the use of drones, aerial imagery, GIS and Remote Sensing for high-resolution mapping, surveying, monitoring and spatial analysis. There is no simpler way to capture detailed information about the physical environment than by observing it from above at the right time and resolution. Participants learn how to plan drone missions, capture and process aerial imagery, generate orthomosaics, digital elevation models (DEMs), 3D models and point clouds, and integrate drone data with GIS for applications in agriculture, construction, infrastructure inspection, environmental monitoring, land surveying, disaster assessment and natural-resource management.

Course objectives

  • Understand the principles of drone mapping, UAV surveying, GIS and Remote Sensing.
  • Plan and conduct drone surveys and aerial mapping missions.
  • Capture high-resolution aerial imagery for mapping, surveying and monitoring.
  • Process drone imagery to generate orthomosaic maps, point clouds, Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) and 3D models.
  • Apply photogrammetry and geospatial processing techniques to drone data.
  • Integrate drone imagery with GIS and Remote Sensing datasets for spatial analysis.
  • Apply drone-based mapping in agriculture, construction, infrastructure, mining, environmental monitoring and disaster assessment.
  • Conduct land-use mapping, change detection and terrain analysis using UAV imagery.
  • Produce accurate drone maps, 3D visualisations and geospatial datasets for professional applications.
  • Use drone and GIS technologies to support surveying, monitoring, inspection, planning and evidence-based decision-making.
