Civil 3D for Road, Highway and Transportation Design Training Workshop / Seminar
10 Days3 sessions available Certificate on completion
The Civil 3D for Road, Highway and Transportation Design Training Workshop equips civil engineers, highway engineers, road designers, surveyors and infrastructure professionals with practical skills to design, model and document road infrastructure using Autodesk Civil 3D.
Participants learn to develop horizontal and vertical alignments, create road profiles, assemble typical road cross-sections, build 3D road corridors, model intersections, assess cut-and-fill quantities and produce engineering drawings for road construction projects. The workshop covers the integration of survey data, existing-ground surfaces, geometric road design, corridor modelling, drainage considerations, earthworks estimation and construction documentation.
Through practical, project-based exercises, participants develop a road design workflow from initial survey data through preliminary geometric design, corridor development, quantity reporting and drawing production. The course emphasises the application of recognised road design principles, relevant national standards and appropriate engineering quality-control procedures.
Course objectives
Import and analyse survey data and existing-ground surfaces for road and highway design using Civil 3D.
Produce professional road design drawings, longitudinal profiles, cross-sections and quantity reports for engineering review and construction documentation.
Calculate preliminary earthworks quantities and analyse corridor surfaces, slopes and design alternatives.
Develop road assemblies, corridor models, intersections and cross-sections for preliminary and detailed design workflows.
Create and evaluate horizontal and vertical road alignments in accordance with specified geometric design criteria.

General notes
Training tools and software The workshop uses Autodesk Civil 3D as the primary platform for road geometry, alignments, profiles, assemblies, corridor modelling, cross-sections and earthworks estimation. Supporting tools include AutoCAD drawing functionality, Microsoft Excel for design data and quantity summaries, survey datasets in CSV or other supported formats, digital terrain models, and LandXML for compatible civil engineering data exchange. Where relevant, participants may review GIS datasets prepared in QGIS to understand terrain, road networks and environmental constraints. An appropriate Civil 3D licence and a compatible computer are required for hands-on exercises.
Practical exercises and expected outputs Participants will import survey observations, generate an existing-ground surface, create a road centreline alignment, design a vertical profile, construct a typical road assembly, develop a 3D corridor, configure superelevation inputs, generate longitudinal profiles and cross-sections, model a road junction, calculate preliminary cut-and-fill quantities and prepare a professional road design drawing package. Expected outputs include a Civil 3D road design project, horizontal alignment drawings, a proposed vertical profile, a typical road assembly, a 3D corridor model, cross-section sheets, an intersection layout, an earthworks quantity report and a documented design review checklist.
Learn Autodesk Civil 3D for road, highway and transportation design through practical training in horizontal and vertical alignment, road profiles, assemblies, 3D corridor modelling, intersections, cross-sections, superelevation and earthworks estimation.
